By 3 o'clock A. M., Mrs. Chadwick had an excellent breakfast ready of stewed sheldrake, clam fritters, excellent buckwheat cakes, and good coffee, and shortly after, with lighted lanterns and a good lunch packed in a tin blicky, we were off to our various points, when only a faint gray streak showed the approach of daylight in the east.

Canister and second blicky are in red, a color hard to find and, unfortunately, one lacking in durability, since the paint has a tendency to flake off.
